The Tecumseh boy’s soccer team rolled through Stebbins High School’s Edmundson Stadium like a Mack truck on Wednesday, October 7th. The Stebbins Indians (3-10-0, 3-6-0 CBC) have struggled this season and are having particular trouble with the Kenton Trail division of the Central Buckeye Conference. The Arrows (10-3-0, 7-2-0 CBC), however, are proving to be among the CBC elite as they have demolished one league opponent after another. If Stebbins had hoped to pull off an upset on this night, the Arrows were quick to dash that expectation. Go to complete report by David Dysinger. Tecumseh 5 Shawnee 1
The Tecumseh boy’s soccer team hosted the Shawnee Braves on Monday, October 5th and had their senior night celebration immediately before the game. The Arrows have seven seniors this year, including four year letter winner Zach Schwartz, three year letterman Jacob Heckman, two year lettermen Chase Budurka, Nick Dysinger, Robert Erickson, Cory Wiley and first year letter winner Aaron Seebeck. Each of the seniors and their parents were recognized before the game for their contributions to building the Tecumseh soccer program. During the four years these seniors have been in high school, they have seen the team go from a losing record in 2006 to the current record breaking squad of which they are a part this season. The Tecumseh boy’s soccer team hosted the Wilmington Hurricanes on Saturday, October 3rd in a non-league contest. The Hurricanes had a 6-5-0 record coming into the match and were currently ranked 9th in the division II Cincinnati area coaches poll. Tecumseh had an 8-3-0 record and was ranked 10th in the division I Miami Valley coaches poll. Tecumseh 0 Tippecanoe 2
Coach Jason Runner and the Tecumseh boy’s soccer team travelled to Tipp City on Wednesday, September 30th to face off with the Tippecanoe Red Devils. Both teams entered the stadium with excellent records. The Arrows were 6-1-0 in the CBC and Tippecanoe had a perfect 7-0-0 record. It was a must win situation for the Arrows if they hoped to capture the league title this year and the Red Devils would virtually clinch the championship if they could defeat Tecumseh. The Tecumseh boy’s varsity soccer team journeyed to Kenton Ridge for their third consecutive away game on Monday September 28th. The Arrows and the Cougars both entered the game with aspirations of winning the CBC title this year and the stage was set for a high stakes game between two of the league powerhouses. The Arrows entered the game with a 5-1-0 CBC record (7-2-0 overall) and the Cougars had a 4-2-0 record (6-3-0 overall). Both teams are notorious for scoring in bunches and for allowing very few goals. What unfolded over the course of the next hour and twenty minutes was a unsparing defensive war. The Tecumseh Arrows boy’s varsity soccer team defeated the Springfield Wildcats in dominant fashion on Saturday September 6th. The Wildcats have struggled this season and they entered the game with a 0-9 record. The Arrows, however, had a 6-2 record and had actually outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 17-0. The Tecumseh Arrows boys varsity soccer team travelled to Urbana September 23rd under unusual circumstances. For the first time since opening day, Coach Jason Runner had all 18 members of his roster to choose from. Tecumseh has been plagued with injuries and illness this season and at one point the Arrows had four players out at the same time, including three starters. The team has battled through that adversity and built a solid record of 5-2-0 (4-1-0 CBC) and is eager to show what they can do at full strength. The Tecumseh Arrows boy’s varsity soccer team hosted the Graham Falcons on Monday, September 21st in a Central Buckeye Conference crossover match. The Arrows entered the game with a 3-1 CBC record and were undefeated on their home field. In their fourth CBC match of the season, the Tecumseh Arrows boy’s soccer team travelled north to Logan County on September 16th to play the Raiders of Benjamin Logan High School. The Raiders have struggled against league opponents this year and the Arrows were no different. From the opening kickoff, Tecumseh was on the attack and dominating possession. Though they were in total control, the Arrows were slow to score. With 7:13 remaining in the first half, Tecumseh was awarded an indirect free kick in the penalty box. Arrows junior Cameron Fritschie passed the ball to sophomore Joel Summerfield on a quick restart. Summerfield smoothly knocked it passed the goalie to drive the Arrows into a 1-0 lead. Tecumseh 4 Northwestern 3
The Tecumseh Arrows Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team hosted the Northwestern Warriors at Spitzer Stadium on Monday, September 14th in a Central Buckeye Conference showdown. From the opening kickoff, the Warriors seemed especially motivated and after less than 2 minutes of play knocked in the game’s first goal to take an early 1-0 lead. As the match progressed, the Arrows had a slight edge in possession and created numerous scoring opportunities. But, it took nearly 30 minutes for their efforts to finally pay off. With 10:05 remaining in the first half, senior Chase Budurka took advantage of a rebound from the Warriors’ goalie and slammed the ball into the goal’s side netting to tie the score at 1-1. The Tecumseh Boy’s Varsity Soccer Team played a hard fought match against the Greenon Knights on Wednesday, September 9th and lost by a score of 2-1. The Arrows seemed to have good momentum going into this match after a couple of consecutive wins, including one against a strong Fairborn team. But, the Knights appeared to be on a mission. Tecumseh 2 Fairborn 1
Tecumseh hosted the Fairborn Skyhawks Saturday, September 5th in a non-league contest between two Boys Varsity Soccer teams with something to prove. Tecumseh opened their season with a heart breaking loss to Vandalia-Butler, who is proving to be a force in the GWOC, and the Arrows were eager to prove that they can play against the big dogs and win. The Skyhawks walked into Spitzer stadium with a 4-1 record knowing that Tecumseh represented one of their toughest challenges to date. While the result of the game would hold no bearing on either team’s league standings, it would be an important factor in post-season tournament seeding. The Tecumseh boy’s varsity soccer team played their first home game of the season against CBC foe Indian Lake on Wednesday, September 2nd. Though the Lakers played a hard fought, aggressive game, they were no match for the significantly bigger and stronger Arrows. The Wildcats of Springfield High School provided a non-league, varsity-only contest for the Tecumseh Boys Soccer team September 20. The new Springfield High School is a result of the recently combined North and South high school campuses. The bulk of the Wildcats’ players came from the old North High School as South had no soccer team. The Arrows had no luck at Springfield’s goal despite repeated attempts until 23:47 in the first half. Tecumseh 4 Indian Lake 1
Tecumseh Boys Soccer took the lengthy bus ride north to Logan County September 17 to play the Lakers of Indian Lake High School in this CBC contest. The Lakers have the unnerving habit of scoring first on the Arrows when Tecumseh plays an away contest at Indian Lake’s home field. This game kept the tradition alive. It took the Lakers a while to do it but with merely 2 minutes remaining in the first half, Indian Lake’s #6 dribbled past two Arrows’ defenders to sink the ball in the Tecumseh goal. The Arrows took on the Warriors of Wayne High School September 13 in a non-CBC contest in Tecumseh’s Spitzer Stadium. The Warriors, perennially a juggernaut team, were no different this season. Tecumseh Boys Varsity Soccer joined battle with the Falcons of Graham High School on September 10. This away match for the Arrows was a CBC conference game for both schools. Graham hit early on the Arrows at 31:37 off a well-played cross inside the Arrows’ 18. An alert Falcon soared upward to head the ball past Tecumseh keeper Jacob Heckman for a first-of-game score. Tecumseh Boys Soccer bussed cross-county September 3 to take on Northwestern High School’s Warriors; the season’s second CBC match for both schools. The Warriors, coached by Bob Caldwell in his first year with Northwestern, were 3-1-0 (0-1 CBC) while the Coach Jason Runner’s Arrows were 2-1-0 overall and 1-0 in the league. The Arrows launched into the first half with a quick goal at 34:28. Senior Zach Marlowe’s distribution up the middle lit the fuse for junior Zach Schwartz to explode into action. Schwartz, collecting Marlowe’s pass- through ball at the 18, pumped off a vibrant shot that the Warriors’ keeper was unable to block from skidding into the goal. Tecumseh Boys Soccer trekked to Fairborn High School August 30 for the Arrows’ third game of the season and first away contest. Head Coach Jason Runner’s Tecumseh 11 were 1-1-0 (1-0-0 CBC) coming off their 3-2 win August 27 over Greenon. The Fairborn Skyhawks, positioned in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s south division, entered the contest 2-0-1 with all of their previous efforts non-divisional matchups. Played under an August 27 threatening, rainy sky, Tecumseh Boys Varsity Soccer took on the Knights of Greenon High School in Spitzer Stadium. The Arrows were still smarting from their season-opener 1-0 loss to Butler on August 23. With this Greenon-Tecumseh match-up the first Central Buckeye Conference contest for both schools, each team felt it crucial to log a win in the league opener.
